dartfords - Rothko & Frost (UK) Nitro Metallic (Coloured) Aerosols

Introducing a popular range of Nitro Metallic cellulose paints as used on vintage guitars from the 50s onwards. This is a restoration grade cellulose paint suitable for both repairs and for new-build instruments where a vintage style finish is desired.

The range of colours available includes many which have been carefully matched to vintage originals. Please be aware that manufacturers have changed colours over the years, and paint can discolour with age, so there is no guarantee that this paint will be a precise match for your instrument. As such, when using for restoration work test on a sample beforehand and adjust as required (this can be mixed with cellulose paint and nitrocellulose lacquer to change its colour).

White and grey cellulose sanding sealer primers are for use on bare wood, underneath R&F Cellulose Paints and R&F Metallic Cellulose Paints. This acts as both a sanding sealer and a primer, helping give an ultra thin finish.

White should be used under greens, yellows and lighter colours. Grey is recommended for under blues, reds, blacks and darker colours.

Amount required varies between woods, but is usually about 150ml / 2 aerosols for a standard electric guitar body.

Metallic cellulose paint is considered a base coat and as such should have a clear nitro lacquer coat applied over the top once finished and before polishing.
