Waterborne Lacquers - dartfords

Introducing a range of quality Rothko & Frost (UK) Waterborne Lacquer Products.

Waterborne primers, sealers, lacquers and paints are ideal for use where the high VOC content of cellulose and spirit based finishes are a concern, especially in the home workshop setting. Simply work in a well-ventilated area and wear a dust mask when spraying. These waterborne finishes are specialist wood coatings designed for use on instruments and furniture.

When applied correctly they give a finish of a similar thickness to nitrocellulose, while also offering easier application, faster drying times, more resistance to abrasion and chemical damage, and a stable finish that will not crack or discolour over time. Because of these advantages more and more professionals and hobbyists are switching to waterborne lacquers for new-build instruments and pieces of furniture.

Clear Lacquers – available in Gloss, Satin and Matt

Water based cross-linking acrylic lacquer which can be applied either by hand or using a spray gun (HVLP kit is recommended). While appearing milky in liquid form, this lacquer dries to a clear finish which is both environmentally friendly to use (cleans with water and does not contain VOCs), and hard wearing once applied. Use over waterborne sanding sealer/primer.

Gloss: 90%

Satin: 65%

Matt: 10%

Waterborne Sanding Sealer – Clear (recommended for tinted and clear waterborne lacquers).

Suitable for both hand and spray application, this warming sealer enhances the natural appearance of the wood's grain and provides a sealing base coat suitable for overcoating with tinted and clear waterborne lacquers.

Waterborne Primer – White (recommended for solid colour waterborne topcoats)

The high build waterborne sealer/primer is for use on bare wood before finishing with a waterborne paint.

This primer, suitable for spray or brush application, first acts by sealing the wood and filling in all remaining scratches caused by prep-sanding. This allows the surface to be sanded to an ultra-smooth finish with 600 grit dry paper prior to painting, a smoothness which will come through in the final finish as a top quality refined surface. Sealing the wood prevents the top coat from soaking in unevenly, helping to give even coverage and depth of colour, and lowering the amount of top coat required.

Secondly, its opaque pigmented white colour covers up the grain and colour even of dark woods, giving a surface ideal for painting onto.

When spraying, can be thinned up to 5% with water.
